Expansion. Creating space. Dr. Nelson Diaz regularly addresses these concepts with patients regarding their smiles and treatment at his Orlando, Florida practice.
A few months ago, the American Board of Orthodontics Diplomate presented them with an expansion on a slightly larger scale – a 3,000-square-foot practice design renovation – at Diaz Orthodontics.
“Patients and parents really enjoy the new reception area, the aquarium, and the new clinical area. We have also received excellent comments about the glass doors and design on the consultation room and the sterilization area,” said Dr. Diaz, who built his first orthodontic practice eight years ago.
“At the same time that my practice continued to grow and the need for a bigger space was eminent, I had the opportunity to purchase the medical condo suite besides mine two years ago,” said Dr. Diaz.
“I immediately met with a team of dental consultants from Benco Dental — with architects, general contractors, and equipment specialists — and we were able to come up with a construction and remodeling project that fit my orthodontic practice needs.”
Dr. Diaz references nation’s largest privately owned dental distributor’s CenterPoint Design team, his Friendly Benco Rep Olga Wells, as well as architects Sandra Cruzalegui and Norman Hallock.
Offering North America’s largest selection of dental equipment and technology at their showrooms across the United States, as well as a hands-on dental design experience, Benco Dental assists dentists in the planning and construction of offices.
As past president of Pan American Dental Association, and member of the American Association of Orthodontists and American Dental Association, Dr. Diaz places a priority on bringing dental advancements to his patients, including the latest technology.
“The expansion project has allowed us to be more efficient in the use of auxiliary orthodontic procedures such as diode laser, intraoral digital scanner, and TADs (Temporary Anchorage Devices), since we have operatories equipped for the use of these technologies,” said Dr. Diaz. “We also integrate High-definition flat screen TVs for the patients’ entertainment in the open bay area.”
With his patients’ smiles as a priority, Dr. Diaz did not want to inconvenience them with unavailability due to the practice renovation. He took steps to insure their satisfaction.
“Any dental or orthodontic construction project requires a very precise construction plan that includes the coordination of everyone involved,” he said. “I recommend to have as many meetings as necessary with the entire project team, and discuss the details before construction has started in order to insure that the project is completed on time.”
Dr. Diaz enlisted Clarion Financial to take the stress out of the financing process and help him bring his vision to life. With Clarion in the picture, he was able to finance the renovation of his 3,000-square foot Orlando practice, including equipment purchases.
“Clarion Financial was a great resource for us in order to finance the new equipment; their representatives were very professional and knowledgeable of my new equipment needs,” added Dr. Diaz. He credited them, in addition to Amy Ouellette BankUnited Vice President/Branch Sales Leader, with help and support during the entire expansion project.
With a complex renovation successfully completed, Dr. Diaz shares his positive experience and offers advice to other health care professionals.
“Always purchase or lease enough space for your dental or orthodontic practice that will allow you to expand it in the future, even if you do not use the entire space at the beginning. Always have an expansion or relocation strategy for the future,” said the central Florida practitioner. “I really enjoy the contemporary “open-space” and welcoming design of my newly expanded and renovated orthodontic practice.”
