After trying yoga for the first time thanks to motivation from a wellness challenge in June, David Danesh, Harvard ’20 spent the summer building on the healthy habits of exercising, eating well and overall self-care.

Earlier this year, according to the 2016 Incisal Edge industry survey, dentistry’s most experienced men and women offered advice to their younger selves, including what they would do differently to maintain physical health. Among their directives: “Exercise daily.”

From both ends of the spectrum arrives the same guidance, that of committing to a healthier work life balance.

Danesh shared a guest column today on Mouthing Off, The Blog of the American Student Dental Association (ASDA), in which he offered the following:

“For me, ASDA’s Wellness Initiative came at a perfect time. The introduction of Wellness Challenges happened to coincided with my newfound desire to take better care of myself by eating well and exercising more regularly. I wanted to be as healthy as I could so that I could set a good example for my patients as a dentist.”

Perhaps the ASDA Wellness Month, September 2016 — aimed to assist its members as they navigate the stress of dental school — can serve as a jumping off point for us all.
