Cinderella’s fairy godmother may have turned a pumpkin into a glittering coach, but the team at Britton Orthodontics in San Antonio, Texas has it all over her.

Their longstanding Pumpkin Decorating Contest culminates annually in October, but the inspiration behind it lasts all year.

“Every year it’s amazing,” said Dr. Bloyce Britton, who organized the event with his team led by marketing coordinator Krista Wollett.

No carving needed

Pumpkins are sent to the orthodontist’s referring doctors, who are invited to design a pumpkin entry in one of two categories.

•  “In the Box,” pumpkins are sent complete with a box of supplies from which to create a masterpiece that includes everything from paper to beans.
• “Out of the Box” pumpkins offer artists free reign.

The seasonal masterpieces remain at Britton Orthodontics for one week, during which patients from Dr. Bloyce’s two orthodontic practices weigh in with their votes in person and via social media.

This year, entries took up residence in Alamo Heights at the practice’s newly constructed second location, where the team began welcoming patients September 5.

“A Boo Bash (shown above),” this fairy tale’s magical ball features a carnival-like event for their referring offices, staffs and staff families.

Food trucks, bounce houses, face-painting, a mobile game theater – dream it, it’s there.

“It’s big party,” said Dr. Britton, putting it mildly.

Not complete without a heartfelt storybook ending, Britton Orthodontics delivers all  seasonal creations and the cheer that accompanies them to pediatric patients at the North Central Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
