Kristie Ceruti“Pantone Color of the Year for 2017 ‘Greenery’ is certainly a departure from the more muted colors of last year. It offers a fresh take on some of the bolder color concepts in Interior Design,” said Megan Chuzas, Interior Designer with Benco Dental CenterPoint Design.
Chuzas offers an example of Greenery, which Pantone describes as “nature’s neutral” in use at Creative Pediatric Dentistry in Hurricane, West Virginia, by
Dr. Elizabeth “Lizzie” Pham-O’Dell.
“A color that is very versatile, it can be perceived as bold and contemporary or clean and organic, and can be used in a wide range of styles. I see it being used everywhere from the auto industry to celebrity hair colors.”
In an interview with the Associated Press, Pantone Color Institute VP Laurie Pressman offered this insight on the “vibrant green with yellow undertones”:
“… an answer, of sorts, to bruising 2016, signaling a yearning to rejuvenate, and to reconnect to both nature and something larger than oneself.
The color ‘greenery,’ similar to chartreuse, is well represented in the first buds and grass blades of new spring, but it also plays out in history at times of major cultural shifts, including the suffrage movement and flapper era of the 1920s and the war and racial justice protest movements and psychedelia of the ’60s and ’70s.”
