When Head Start was first launched in 1965, the idea of providing comprehensive health, nutrition, and education services to children in poverty was revolutionary, if not radical.

Not unlike the concept, in 1866, that a woman could become a dentist. Dr. Lucy Hobbs proved it possible, so it seems serendipitous that an organization created in tribute to Dr. Hobbs today helps the National Head Start Association (NHSA) to further its mission.

Each year The Lucy Hobbs Project™ collaborates with a national partner to give back, and for 2016, will assist the National Head Start Association (NHSA) . Powered by Benco Dental, The Lucy Hobbs Project is a national program focused on empowering women in dentistry to drive change and deliver results based upon three pillars – networking, innovating and giving back.  This project aims to bring women together from all facets of the dental industry – dentists, dental assistants, hygienists, receptionists, sales representatives and others.  Free to join, the group offers networking opportunities, educational programs and charitable events.

The give-back portion of the Lucy Hobbs Project 4th Annual Celebration Honoring Exemplary Women in the Dental Community June 2, 3 in Dallas, Texas benefitted Head Start of Greater Dallas. In lieu of an event fee, attendees were asked to donate non-perishable, healthy snacks, which resulted in 10 boxes or 252.6 lbs. of donations.
