If necessity is the mother of invention, then Joseph Tucker is the poster child.

While training for a marathon in 2012, the Louisiana native realized he wasn’t getting the hydration he needed and came up with the idea of a hands-free hydration system, reports KPLC TV.

Tucker developed a refillable mouth guard, Hydra-Guard, with a pouch of liquid that allows athletes to rehydrate during a game, which was spotlighted at DentalProductsShopper.com recently.

“You’re not going to find anything out there like it,” Tucker told KPLC TV. “There’s no other re-hydrating mouth guard out there that’s going to put more electrolytes into an athletes mouth.”

Beginning February 25, consumers were able to try it for themselves for $34.99 by visiting the Hyra-Guard website: https://www.hydratingmouthguard.com/shop/

As mentioned in the Dental Products Shopper report by Julie Schmitt, the ADA promotes the use of a properly fitted mouth guard as the best available protective device for reducing the incidence and severity of sports-related dental injuries.
