A team of six performed dental work for about 250 children in rural schools and orphanages from classroom clinics they set up in each location.

Dr. James Wu, of Tewksbury, Mass., and Dr. Kunio Chan, of Billerica, Mass., were among dental professionals who visited Moldova, April 18 to 25,  through an outreach by Grace Chapel in Lexington, Massachusetts.

The dental team participating in the outreach the Eastern European country, consisted of an oral surgeon, a dentist, an assistant, a dental hygienist, and a ministry person. They provided free dental care, including extractions, fillings, restorations and cleanings to children in orphanages, some institutionalized handicapped adults and to the elderly living in a rural village.

According to Pastor of Global and Regional Outreach Jeanette Yep, the team also offered public health education on sanitation and making healthy lifestyle choices. Children were presented an age appropriate program which included basic English lessons and other activities.

Team participants include: Drs. Chan and Wu, along with Cosmin Ioan, Patricia Jacobsen, Susan Leach and Janice Wu.

“I want to recognize Nancy Cooper with Southern Anesthesia and Surgical, John Healy with Benco Dental, Mike O’Neil with GC America and Mark Mayer with Aseptico for their generous donation of supplies and equipment that helped us take care of these children,” said Dr. Wu.

Dr. James Wu was part of a team that provided free dental care, including extractions, fillings, restorations and cleanings to children in orphanages, some institutionalized handicapped adults and to the elderly living in a rural village.

Each year, the Face of a Child project at Grace Chapel assists thousands of children from 43 orphanages throughout Moldova. Now in its thirteenth year through the Little Samaritan Mission, Grace Chapel is sponsoring and distributing care packages to these orphans. Basic items include winter coats, hats, mittens, school and hygiene supplies.
