“From small mom-and-pop shops to hospitals, mills and major manufacturers, Pennsylvania’s job creators help make our commonwealth the best place to live, work and raise a family,” Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary C. Alan Walker said. “DCED is honored to recognize these businesses that not only define Pennsylvania’s diverse and vibrant economy, but also empower our dedicated and talented workforce.”

Team Pennsylvania Foundation joined the Department of Community and Economic Development and the Central Penn Business Journal in announcing Pennsylvania’s 100 Best Places to Work at the Lancaster County Convention Center. Team Pennsylvania is a founding partner and lead sponsor of Best Places to Work since the program began nearly 15 years ago.

At the 2014 PA Best Places to Work Awards Event in Lancaster, Pa., Benco Dental (shown above) was selected as the 15th Best Place to Work in PA (Large Company category).

“This is our third best showing over the years and 11th time in 12 years that Benco has received such recognition,” said George Rable, Vice President of Culture & People at the fastest growing dental distribution company in the country. Benco Dental’s home office is located in Pittston, Pennsylvania.

Founded in 1930 by Benjamin Cohen, the company has remained family-owned and focused on its unique mission to ‘deliver success, smile after smile.’ Over the past decade, Benco has been the nation’s fastest growing dental distributor, now servicing more than 35,000 dentists and dental laboratories.

Rable offered gratitude to the more than 1,300 associates who comprise the Benco Dental team when he said, “Thank you to all associates who took the time to complete a Best Places to Work survey. YOU make Benco a Great Place to Work!”

The Best Places to Work in PA includes two groups of 72 companies: small/medium-sized firms with 25-250 employees and 28 large-sized companies with 251 employees or more.

The rankings are compiled through research via a survey that’s sent to employers and employees from hundreds of companies in the commonwealth. Using a formula similar to Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work for in America,” the Best Companies Group scores the workplace practices survey along with the employee survey and each Best Places to Work candidate is given an overall score.

To be eligible, participating companies must:
• Be a for-profit or not-for-profit business;
• Be a publicly or privately held business;
• Have a facility in Pennsylvania;
• Have at least 25 employees in Pennsylvania; and
• Be in good standing with all commonwealth agencies under the Governor’s jurisdiction.
