The motto of the Thomas P. Hinman Dental Meeting seems to be reflected in this year’s theme “Aiming for Excellence.” The annual event, which drew nearly 22,000 attendees to Georgia in 2013, takes place in Atlanta March 27 to 29 at the Georgia World Congress Center and Omni Hotel at CNN Center.

The first meeting, held in 1911 by Dr. Thomas P. Hinman, established the “serious-minded nature of the conference,” and its the individual’s contribution to dentistry. This year’s event features 230 courses by 65 leading dental experts, including Keynote Speaker Dr. Benjamin Carson Sr.

Hinman, the first in Atlanta to incorporate x-ray technology into his practice, received one of the highest tributes in the dental world: an appointment by President Woodrow Wilson as the U.S. Delegate and Honorary Chairman of the Section VIII of the Fourth International Congress of Dentists in London.

By the age of 40, the dentist and Professor of Oral Surgery was an internationally-renowned lecturer, educator and leader in the dental profession.
